These Quick Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs are proof that Halloween food doesn’t have to be complicated to be impressive. With just 20 minutes and a handful of ingredients, you can create something that looks genuinely creepy but tastes like pure comfort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 6 large black olives, pitted

Instructions

  1. Hard-boil the eggs: Place 6 large eggs in a medium saucepan and cover with cold water by about an inch. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, cover the pot, remove from heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare an ice bath in a large bowl. After 12 minutes, transfer the eggs to the ice bath and let them cool for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Peel the eggs: Gently crack the shells all over, then peel under running cold water. Pat the peeled eggs dry with a paper towel.
  3. Halve the eggs: Using a sharp knife, slice each egg lengthwise. Carefully remove the yolks and place them in a small mixing bowl. Arrange the egg white halves on a serving platter, cut-side up.
  4. Make the filling: Add 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper to the yolks. Mash with a fork until completely smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  5. Fill the egg whites: Spoon the yolk mixture into each egg white half, dividing evenly. For a cleaner look, transfer the filling to a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped off, and pipe it in.
  6. Prepare the spiders: Slice each black olive in half crosswise. You’ll have 12 olive halves. For each spider, take one olive half and slice it lengthwise into 4 thin strips—these become the legs. Leave the other half intact for the spider body.
  7. Assemble the spiders: On each deviled egg, place the intact olive half in the center for the spider body. Arrange 4 thin olive strips on each side of the body to create 8 legs. Press gently so they stick to the filling.
  8. Garnish and serve: Lightly sprinkle paprika over the eggs, avoiding the olive spiders if you want them to stand out. Serve immediately or refrigerate until ready.

Notes

Use older eggs for easier peeling. For perfectly smooth filling, make sure mayonnaise is at room temperature. The olive legs can be fiddly; if they break, just press them into the filling anyway. Hard-boil eggs up to 5 days ahead and keep unpeeled in the fridge. For a dairy-free version, use vegan mayonnaise.
