These Cozy Spider Deviled Eggs are a nostalgic, creamy, and tangy classic appetizer with a fun, spooky Halloween twist. They are quick to make, use simple ingredients, and are perfect for any Halloween gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • Water, for boiling
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika (plus more for garnish)
  • 6 pitted black olives
  • 1/2 small red bell pepper, cut into tiny strips

Instructions

  1. Hard Boil the Eggs: Place the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Cover with cold water by about an inch. Add the vinegar. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, cover the pot, turn off the heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes.
  2. Ice Bath: While the eggs cook, prepare an ice bath. Transfer the eggs to the ice water using a slotted spoon and let chill for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Peel and Halve the Eggs: Gently tap the eggs to crack the shell all over. Peel under cool running water. Pat dry. Slice each egg in half lengthwise. Pop out the yolks into a mixing bowl or food processor.
  4. Make the Filling: Add mayonnaise, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, salt, and pepper to the yolks. If using a food processor, pulse until smooth and creamy. If using a fork, mash until very smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  5. Fill the Egg Whites: Transfer the filling to a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off the tip. Pipe the filling into the hollow of each egg white, mounding it slightly. Sprinkle a tiny bit of paprika over the top.
  6. Make the Spiders: For each spider, cut one olive in half lengthwise. One half is the body. Cut the other half lengthwise into 4 thin strips (the legs). You will have 8 legs per spider.
  7. Assemble the Spiders: Place the olive body half in the center of a deviled egg. Arrange the 8 legs around the body, pressing lightly into the filling. Use two tiny strips of red bell pepper for the eyes. Repeat with remaining eggs and olives.

Notes

Use older eggs for easier peeling. For a smoother filling without a food processor, mash yolks with a fork until very fine or press through a fine-mesh sieve. Add spider decorations right before serving to keep olives from drying out. The filling can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
