A fun and spooky Halloween treat featuring crunchy pretzel rods dipped in rich dark chocolate and vibrant green candy coating, decorated with almond slivers to resemble witch fingers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • About 20 sturdy pretzel rods, ideally thick and crunchy
  • 12 ounces (340g) dark chocolate chips or bars, good quality bittersweet chocolate
  • 8 ounces (225g) green candy melts or green candy coating
  • 1 cup sliced almonds (optional, for ‘finger bones’ effect)
  • A few drops red food coloring gel (optional, for blood-like detail)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or coconut oil (to thin chocolate or candy coating if needed)
  • Wax paper or parchment paper (for cooling and setting dipped pretzels)

Instructions

  1. Chop dark chocolate if using bars. Melt in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second bursts, stirring between each until smooth and glossy. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable or coconut oil if chocolate is too thick (about 3-4 minutes total).
  2. Hold pretzel rod by one end and dip into melted dark chocolate about 3/4 of the way up. Let excess drip off. Place on parchment-lined sheet.
  3. While chocolate is still wet, press sliced almonds along one side of the dipped pretzel to simulate knobby finger joints and bones. Work quickly as chocolate sets fast.
  4. Place dipped pretzels in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to set the chocolate layer firmly.
  5. In a separate bowl, melt green candy melts using the same microwave method, adding a teaspoon of oil if needed for smoothness.
  6. Dip the chocolate-coated pretzels into green candy coating just on the tips or about 1/3 of the pretzel rod, depending on desired look. Let excess drip and return to parchment paper.
  7. Using a small spoon or piping bag, dot a little red ‘blood’ near the almond knuckles or dripping from the green coating for an extra creepy effect (optional).
  8. Refrigerate pretzels for 20-30 minutes until candy coating is fully set and crisp.
  9. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature away from humidity for up to 5 days.

Notes

Keep pretzels dry and at room temperature before dipping to avoid cracking chocolate. Melt chocolate between 104°F-113°F (40°C-45°C) to prevent seizing. Add a bit of oil to thin chocolate or candy melts for smoother dipping. Work quickly as coatings set fast. Store in a cool, dry place to keep coatings crisp. Refrigeration can cause candy coating to sweat and lose crispness. If chocolate seizes, add a tiny bit of warm oil and stir gently.
