A spooky, salty-sweet snack board featuring smoky toasted snack mix, cheese cubes, candy, and cookie tombstones. Perfect for Halloween parties and fall gatherings, it comes together in under 30 minutes and is always a crowd-pleaser.

  • 3 cups pretzel twists
  • 2 cups salted peanuts
  • 1 cup Chex cereal
  • 1 cup mini pretzel sticks
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
  • 8 ounces pepper jack cheese, cubed
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • 1 cup candy pumpkins
  • 1/2 cup chocolate-covered pretzels
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds (pepitas), toasted
  • 8–10 chocolate wafer cookies
  • 1/4 cup white icing or melted white chocolate
  • 2–3 gummy worms
  • 1–2 small plastic skeletons or Halloween picks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups pretzel twists, 2 cups salted peanuts, 1 cup Chex cereal, and 1 cup mini pretzel sticks. Toss to combine.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (if using). Pour over the snack mix and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the seasoned snack mix in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, stirring halfway through, until golden and fragrant. Let cool completely on the sheet.
  5. While the snack mix cools, write ‘RIP’ or spooky messages on each chocolate wafer cookie using white icing in a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Let set for about 5 minutes.
  6. Cut cheddar and pepper jack cheese into 1/2-inch cubes.
  7. Place the large serving board or platter on the counter. Pile the cooled snack mix in the center or slightly off to one side.
  8. Arrange cheese cubes in small clusters around the snack mix.
  9. Scatter candy corn, candy pumpkins, chocolate-covered pretzels, dried cranberries, and pumpkin seeds in small piles around the board.
  10. Stick the cookie tombstones into the snack mix or cheese piles so they stand upright. Add gummy worms crawling out of the mix. Place plastic skeletons or Halloween picks around the board if desired.

Notes

Toast the snack mix properly by stirring halfway through. Let the mix cool completely before assembling to prevent cheese from sweating and candy from melting. The snack mix and cheese can be prepared up to two days in advance. Store tombstones separately to prevent sogginess.
