A quick and easy homemade pumpkin spice syrup that brings cozy fall flavors to your coffee using real pumpkin puree and warm spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (120g) pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar (preferably dark brown sugar)
  • 1 cup (240ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine pumpkin puree, brown sugar, and water in a saucepan and whisk together until thick and gritty, about 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves until well combined.
  3. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring mixture to a low simmer, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Simmer for 8-10 minutes until syrup thickens and deepens in color.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Optional: Pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a heatproof container to remove pulp for a smoother texture.
  6. Let syrup cool to room temperature before sealing in a jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

Use moderate heat to avoid burning sugar. Stir often. Straining is optional but recommended for smooth syrup. If syrup thickens too much after cooling, stir in a tablespoon of hot water before use. For vegan version, substitute brown sugar with coconut sugar or maple syrup and use alcohol-free vanilla extract if desired. Syrup keeps up to two weeks refrigerated.
