This easy honey garlic salmon in foil packets is a quick, 20-minute dinner with minimal cleanup. The foil packet method locks in moisture, creating perfectly tender salmon coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each, about 1.5 lbs total)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder, a light sprinkle
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Fresh lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Tear off four sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil, each about 12 inches long.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, low-sodium soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, rice vinegar, sesame oil (if using), and a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  3. Pat each salmon fillet dry with paper towels. Season both sides lightly with salt, black pepper, and a sprinkle of garlic powder.
  4. Place one salmon fillet in the center of each foil sheet, skin-side down if applicable. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the honey garlic sauce over each fillet. Reserve a little sauce for brushing after cooking if desired.
  5. Bring the two long sides of the foil together over the salmon and fold them over a few times to create a tight seal. Fold up the short ends, crimping them closed. Leave a little room for steam to circulate.
  6. Place the foil packets on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake for 14-16 minutes, depending on thickness. Salmon should be opaque and flake easily with a fork.
  7. Carefully open the packets using tongs, letting steam escape before opening fully.
  8. If reserved sauce was set aside, brush it over the salmon. Sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Squeeze fresh lemon wedges over the top. Serve directly from the foil or transfer to a plate with sauce spooned over.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature salmon (let sit out for 15 minutes before cooking). Don’t over-sauce; about 2 tablespoons per fillet is ideal. Seal packets tightly to prevent steam escape. Let salmon rest 2-3 minutes after baking before opening. If using frozen salmon, thaw completely and pat dry; add 2-3 minutes to baking time. The sauce can be made up to a week ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
