A fun and easy Halloween appetizer featuring a wheel of brie wrapped in crescent roll dough to look like a mummy, baked until golden and gooey. Perfect for parties, it’s quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 wheel of brie (8 oz / 225 g)
  • 1 can (8 oz / 225 g) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Sesame seeds or black poppy seeds for eyes (optional)
  • Crackers, sliced baguette, apple slices, or pear slices for serving
  • Honey, fig jam, cranberry sauce, or red pepper flakes for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough on a clean work surface. Separate it along the perforations into 8 triangles. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut each triangle lengthwise into 2-3 thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
  3. Place the brie wheel in the center of the prepared baking sheet, leaving the rind on.
  4. Start wrapping: Take one strip of dough and lay it across the brie, letting the ends hang down slightly. Repeat with another strip, crossing it over the first one. Continue wrapping the brie with the dough strips, overlapping them slightly, until the entire wheel is covered except for a small gap in the center for the ‘face.’
  5. Press the ends of the dough strips underneath the brie to secure them.
  6. Brush the entire dough-wrapped brie with the beaten egg wash. If using, place two small dots of sesame or poppy seeds in the exposed cheese area for eyes.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and puffed, and the brie is soft and gooey in the center.
  8. Let it cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet.
  9. Transfer to a serving platter and arrange crackers around it. Serve warm. If adding honey or jam, do it right before serving.

Notes

Don’t over-wrap the brie; leave a small gap for the mummy face. Use cold brie for easier handling. Watch the oven closely to avoid over-baking. Let the brie rest for 5 minutes after baking to set. Double the recipe for a crowd.
