A spooky green Halloween punch with dry ice fog that looks like it came straight from a witch’s cauldron. Tart, sweet, fizzy, and incredibly easy to make, this crowd-pleasing drink is perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (64-ounce) bottle lemonade, chilled
  • 1 (2-liter) bottle ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 (1-liter) bottle lemon-lime soda (Sprite or 7-Up), chilled
  • 1 (48-ounce) container lime sherbet, softened
  • 1 cup pineapple juice (optional)
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 2–3 pounds food-grade dry ice
  • Plastic spider rings or gummy worms (optional garnish)
  • Fresh lime slices (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Chill all liquids (lemonade, ginger ale, lemon-lime soda, pineapple juice) overnight.
  2. Soften lime sherbet at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving.
  3. Wearing thick gloves, break dry ice into golf-ball-sized chunks using a hammer wrapped in a towel. Store in a cooler until ready to use.
  4. In a large pitcher, combine chilled lemonade, ginger ale, lemon-lime soda, and pineapple juice. Stir gently. Add 3-5 drops green food coloring and stir.
  5. Place a small heatproof glass bowl or ramekin in the center of a large punch bowl. Pour the liquid mixture around it, filling the punch bowl three-quarters full.
  6. Scoop half the softened lime sherbet into the punch. Stir gently to incorporate some, leaving most floating on top.
  7. Using tongs or gloved hands, place 3-4 chunks of dry ice into the small bowl. Do not put dry ice directly into the punch.
  8. Pour a small amount of warm water (about 1/4 cup) over the dry ice to create thick fog. Add more warm water as needed to maintain fog.
  9. Garnish with plastic spider rings, gummy worms, or lime slices. Serve with a ladle, reminding guests not to touch or eat the dry ice.
  10. Refresh fog every 30-45 minutes by adding new dry ice chunks and warm water. Do not cover the punch bowl while dry ice is active.

Notes

Never touch dry ice with bare skin. Always contain dry ice in a separate small bowl inside the punch bowl. Do not drink punch until dry ice has completely sublimated (about 15-20 minutes after last chunk disappears). Do not seal or cover the punch bowl while dry ice is active. Pick up dry ice no more than 2-3 hours before serving for best fog effect. For adult version, replace ginger ale with 1-2 cups white rum or vodka. For dairy-free version, use lime sorbet instead of sherbet.
