These spooky witch’s finger pretzel rods are a quick, fun, and easy Halloween treat made with pretzel rods, white chocolate, green food coloring, and sliced almond ‘fingernails.’ Perfect for last-minute parties, they’re a crowd-pleasing snack that kids love to help make and eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 standard bag pretzel rods (about 12–16 rods)
  • 1 ½ cups (270g) white chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • Green gel food coloring
  • ½ cup (40g) sliced almonds
  • Optional: Green sanding sugar or sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Station: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Lay out pretzel rods on a separate plate. Have sliced almonds ready in a small bowl.
  2. Melt the White Chocolate: Pour white chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second bursts at 50% power, stirring well after each burst, until about 75% melted. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Add the Color: Add a small dab of green gel food coloring to the melted chocolate. Stir vigorously until fully incorporated. Start with a pea-sized amount and add more as needed for a pale, sickly green.
  4. Dip the Pretzels: Hold a pretzel rod by one end. Dip the other end into the green chocolate, twisting gently as you pull it out to coat about two-thirds of the pretzel. Let excess drip off, then place on the prepared baking sheet. Work in batches of 3-4.
  5. Attach the Fingernails: While chocolate is still wet, press a sliced almond onto the tip of each pretzel with the pointy end facing outward. Press gently so it stands up slightly. Use a toothpick to adjust if needed.
  6. Add Texture (Optional): Sprinkle green sanding sugar or sprinkles over the wet chocolate for a warty look.
  7. Set the Chocolate: Transfer the baking sheet to the refrigerator and let the chocolate set completely, about 15-20 minutes, until firm and no longer shiny.
  8. Final Touch (Optional): Once set, dab a tiny bit of red frosting or jam at the base of the almond ‘nail’ for a bloody effect.

Notes

Use gel food coloring, not liquid, to prevent chocolate from seizing. Work in a cool room to keep chocolate from getting too runny. For a thicker coating, dip pretzels once, let set for 5 minutes, then dip again. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator if warm/humid. Best eaten within 24 hours for maximum crunch.
