Golden, puffy apple dumplings wrapped in flaky biscuit dough and baked in a buttery, cinnamon-spiked Mountain Dew glaze. This easy, unexpected dessert is a family favorite that comes together in minutes and disappears even faster.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples (or any firm, tart apple like Honeycrisp)
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (like Pillsbury Grands! or store brand)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 can (12 oz) Mountain Dew (regular, not diet)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Peel and core the 2 Granny Smith apples. Cut each into 8 equal wedges (16 wedges total). Set aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Stir well.
  4. Open the can of refrigerated biscuits and separate them into 8 biscuits. Flatten each biscuit slightly with your hands or a rolling pin until about 4 inches in diameter.
  5. Place one apple wedge in the center of each flattened biscuit. Sprinkle about 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon sugar over the apple. Wrap the biscuit dough around the apple, pinching the edges to seal completely. Place each wrapped dumpling seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Tuck any remaining apple wedges (you should have 8 left) around the dumplings in the dish. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar over everything.
  7. Drizzle the 1/2 cup of melted butter evenly over the dumplings. Slowly pour the entire can of Mountain Dew over and around the dumplings.
  8. Dot the top of each dumpling with the remaining 1/4 cup of butter (cut into small pieces). If using nuts, sprinkle them over the top now.
  9. Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the syrup is bubbling thickly around the edges. If tops brown too quickly, tent loosely with foil at the 20-minute mark.
  10. Let the dumplings cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. The syrup will thicken as it cools. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Don’t skip the butter—it creates the rich, caramelized glaze. Seal the dumplings well to prevent apple juice from leaking. Use room temperature biscuits for easier handling. For a make-ahead option, assemble dumplings a few hours ahead, add Mountain Dew and butter just before baking, and add 5-10 minutes to baking time if starting from cold. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based butter. For gluten-free, use gluten-free canned biscuits. Avoid diet sodas as they don’t caramelize properly.
