Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) ball burrata cheese (about 225 grams)
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced into rounds (about 225 grams)
  • 3 large heirloom or vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced thickly
  • 6 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced (about 170 grams)
  • 1 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, a pinch
  • Optional: Marcona almonds or crusty bread slices for added crunch

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes into thick rounds about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick using a serrated knife.
  2. Slice the fresh mozzarella into similar thick rounds.
  3. Arrange the tomato and mozzarella slices on a large serving board in alternating layers, slightly overlapping to create a colorful base.
  4. Gently tear open the burrata and nestle it right on top of the tomatoes in one or two sections, allowing the creamy interior to ooze slightly.
  5. Fold or roll the prosciutto slices loosely and place them around the cheese and tomato layers for a natural, casual look.
  6. Tuck whole fresh basil leaves between the layers and around the board to add bright herbal notes.
  7. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil evenly over the board.
  8. Add balsamic glaze sparingly (about 1 tablespoon), focusing on the burrata and tomatoes.
  9. Sprinkle flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper over everything to enhance flavors.
  10. Optionally, scatter Marcona almonds or crusty bread slices around the edges for added texture.

Notes

Let burrata, mozzarella, and tomatoes sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before assembling to enhance flavor and texture. Assemble the board just before serving to keep ingredients fresh. Use high-quality extra virgin olive oil for best flavor. For gluten-free, omit bread or use gluten-free bread. For dairy-free, substitute burrata with avocado slices. Avoid stacking ingredients too tightly to allow easy picking.
