An easy and elegant appetizer featuring light whipped ricotta spread on toasted baguette slices, topped with fresh figs, prosciutto, honey, and fresh thyme. Ready in under 20 minutes, perfect for entertaining or quick snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (250g) whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) heavy cream
  • 46 ripe fresh figs, sliced thin
  • 6 slices prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 1 small baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch (1.25cm) pieces and toasted
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) honey
  • A few sprigs fresh thyme, leaves only
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice baguette into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Arrange on a baking sheet in a single layer and toast for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
  2. In a medium chilled bowl, combine ricotta and heavy cream. Whip with an electric mixer or whisk on medium-high speed until light, fluffy, and mousse-like, about 3-5 minutes. Add extra teaspoon of cream if too thick.
  3. Rinse figs gently, pat dry, and slice thinly into rounds or quarters.
  4. Spread a generous dollop of whipped ricotta on each toasted baguette slice. Top with folded prosciutto slices, then arrange fig slices on top.
  5. Drizzle each crostini with about 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) honey. Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves, sea salt, and cracked black pepper over the top.
  6. Serve immediately to enjoy crisp bread and fresh toppings.

Notes

Whip ricotta with chilled cream and bowl for best fluffy texture. Toast bread until golden and crisp to avoid sogginess. Assemble crostini just before serving. For dairy-free, use coconut cream and dairy-free ricotta alternatives. For pork-free, substitute prosciutto with smoked turkey or grilled mushrooms. Optionally broil assembled crostini briefly for a warm version.
