These Spicy Mummy Jalapeño Poppers are a fun and festive Halloween snack featuring creamy, spicy cheese filling wrapped in crispy dough strips to mimic mummies. Perfect for parties and crowd-pleasers, they balance heat and creaminess with a playful twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 medium fresh jalapeños, halved and seeded
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 sheet puff pastry or crescent roll dough (about 8 oz), thawed if frozen
  • 1 beaten egg mixed with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Optional: ½ cup crispy bacon bits
  • Optional: Ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Wearing gloves if sensitive, slice jalapeños in half lengthwise and carefully remove seeds and membranes. Pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Stir in shredded cheddar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Fold in bacon bits if using.
  4. Spoon the cheese mixture into each jalapeño half, filling generously but leaving a little room at the edges for wrapping.
  5. Roll out puff pastry or crescent dough on a floured surface and cut into thin strips about ¼ inch wide. Wrap strips around each stuffed jalapeño half loosely to mimic mummy bandages, leaving a small gap for eyes. Place seam side down on the baking sheet.
  6. Brush each wrapped jalapeño with egg wash for a golden finish.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until pastry is puffed and golden brown, watching closely in the last 5 minutes to avoid overbrowning.
  8. Once baked, add small dots of sour cream, cream cheese, or edible eyes in the exposed gap to create spooky mummy eyes.
  9. Let poppers cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Remove jalapeño membranes to reduce heat. Use a light hand with egg wash to avoid sogginess. Wrap dough strips loosely for best crispiness. Tent with foil if browning too quickly. Let poppers rest a few hours for deeper flavor. Reheat in oven to maintain crisp texture. Vegan and dairy-free substitutions available.
