A quick and flavorful weeknight dinner featuring ground turkey cooked in a sticky ginger sesame sauce served over fragrant jasmine rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground turkey (lean or regular)
  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice (preferably jasmine)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup (200g) of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine with 2 cups (480ml) of water in a pot or rice cooker. Cook according to package instructions, about 15-20 minutes. Set aside and keep warm.
  2. While the rice cooks, peel and grate 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger and mince 3 garlic cloves.
  3. Warm 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the grated ginger and garlic, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Add 1 pound (450g) of ground turkey to the skillet. Break it up with your spatula and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through, making sure there’s no pink left. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if using. Pour this over the cooked turkey and stir well. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes sticky.
  6. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of toasted sesame oil over the turkey. Stir to combine and take the pan off the heat.
  7. Divide the warm rice between four bowls. Spoon the sticky ginger sesame turkey over the rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds.
  8. Serve immediately while warm and sticky.

Notes

If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or broth to loosen it. Avoid burning the ginger and garlic to prevent bitterness. Toast sesame seeds in a dry pan for 2-3 minutes until golden and fragrant. Use fresh ginger for best flavor. Add honey just as the sauce starts to simmer to achieve the sticky texture.
